Quick Tip for Medical Staff: Ensuring Complete Portable X-Ray Orders

Efficiency and accuracy are important in the healthcare world- and even more so for portable imaging. Missing information can lead to delays, claim denials, patient care disruptions, and Medicare audits.

Here is a quick tip to help ensure that your portable X-ray orders go through smoothly every time!

What to Include in Your Order:

When placing a portable X-ray order in your EHR system (e.g., eClinicalWorks, Epic, Athenahealth), be sure to include:

Clinical Indication / Symptom (e.g., “Shortness of breath”)
Reason for Portable (e.g., “Bedbound, unable to be transported”)

Where to Enter the ‘Reason for Portable’

If your EHR system does not have a dedicated field for “Reason for Portable,” simply enter it in the Notes or Special Instructions section of the order.

By including these details, you help:
✔ Prevent delays
in processing orders
✔ Reduce claim denials d
ue to missing information
✔ Ensure faster, more effective patient care
Ensure Medicare compliance
